Cat Guardians

Cat Guardians is the free service provided by Cats Protection, aimed at giving peace of mind to cat owners concerned about what might happen if they were to pass away before their cat.

Our Promise

If you have cats, we know how much they mean to you. Should something happen to you, you will naturally want to make sure that someone is there to care for the cat or cats you love.

Through our Cat Guardians service, individuals can make arrangements with us so that in the event of their death, we will take care of their cats and try to find them a loving new home. Furthermore, Cats Protection promises never to put a healthy cat to sleep, so you can feel assured that we will give your feline friend all the love and care they need until we can find them the new home they deserve.

What happens?

If you pass away and have registered with our Cat Guardians service, then we will arrange to bring your cat or cats into the care of one of our nearby branches or adoption centres. Once there, our dedicated volunteers and staff would care for them, as we would for any cat that needs our help.

We would then look after your cat or cats while we try to find them a loving new home that matches their personality and needs.

How to register with Cat Guardians
If you decide that you would like to register with our Cat Guardians service, the process is very straightforward. Registering with the service will cover you for any cats you may have at the time of your death, but please provide as much information as possible to help us care for them.

To register online go to our online registration form via http://www.cats.org.uk/get-involved/support-us/cat-guardians/

To register by post download our printable registration form. If you have more than 3 cats, please use a continuation form to register any additional cats. Then return the form to our freepost address.

Please also leave instructions in your will to confirm your wishes and to ensure that we are contacted in the event of your death. The suggested wording we use is: “My Executors should contact Cats Protection (Registered Charity Numbers 203644/SC037711) of the National Cat Centre, Chelwood Gate, Haywards Heath RH17 7TT to arrange for the care of any cats that I may own at the time of my death.”.

Once we’ve received your form, we’ll send you your wallet card and other items to notify others that you have made these arrangements. Please fill them in accordingly.

Make a difference to the lives of even more cats and kittens…

Many people who register with our Cat Guardians service also choose to remember Cats Protection in their will, as a result of the time and effort we are willing to exert to secure the welfare of their cats. These gifts are vital to us, as more than half of the work we do to help cats and kittens throughout the UK is funded by this incredible generosity.

You can find out more about how a gift in your will could make the difference to the lives of cats and kittens in the future in our Gifts in Wills section of our website. (Source: Cats Protection)
